A little about me…
I grew up in Kent and attended Brighton Polytechnic between 1988 and 1992, gaining a degree in Computer Science. I later worked for STC (Nortel), Mercury Interactive, Netscape, Sun Microsystems, KPMG and Lloyd’s of London.
After a reasonably successful career in IT, I now have more time for writing, crafting the kinds of stories that have been quietly assembling themselves in the back of my mind for decades — usually involving starships, ancient mysteries, impossible odds and characters who know their own minds.
My influences span the literary giants — Tolkien, Clarke, McCaffrey, Asimov, Atwood, Banks, Le Guin, and Herbert — and the screen legends of 70s and 80s sci-fi and fantasy: Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Ulysses 31, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth and Star Fleet (X-Bomber), with later passions including Firefly, Farscape, Dark Matter, The Expanse, and Game of Thrones, alongside TV dramas like Outlander and Stranger Things.
I am the author of the Shadeward Saga, a four-part fantasy-flavoured epic set against a backdrop of hard science fiction, and I’m currently expanding the same universe through two new series titled Hegira and Mobilis. I also penned the officially licensed novels for Elite: Dangerous and the cult classics Lords of Midnight and Doomdark’s Revenge, a huge privilege, and closing a circle opened back when I was a teenager with a ZX Spectrum!
My primary aim as a writer is simple: to entertain. My stories are about adventure, discovery, survival, and the thrill of the unknown, told with sincerity, clarity, and the occasional bit of humour and romance. There’s no particular allegory, no not-so-subtle agenda — just escapism with emotional weight, strong characters and enough plot momentum to pull you along.
I’m also passionate about encouraging new writers. I am proof that you don’t need a degree in literature or a wall full of writing workshop certificates to succeed (I have a lone “C” grade O Level in English Literature as qualification!) — just imagination, discipline, and the courage to start.
My books are available in ebook, paperback, and audiobook formats.
