Meru
Meru is an inquisitive and intelligent young man. Born in 2285, he is an apprentice timekeeper.
He is fascinated by the workings of things, often to the exclusion of people, to which he may appear offish and unconcerned. He is far more interested in machines and technology than people.
Averagely tall, but with a wiry rather than athletic built, he has a tendency towards arrogance and dismissiveness for those with, in his view, simplistic or contrary views.
He has a lust for adventure and refuses to be tied down until he experiences the wider world. He is a keen flyer and sailor with excellent skills of marksmanship. He is also adept at fixing things.
With faded brown hair and tanned skin he is an outdoors type, used to travelling. He has a strong dislike of politicians and anything that detracts from the pursuit of technology.
Meru runs away from his parents, Hannah and Henoch Farstone, stowing away on a fishing vessel before being picked up by Coran on the Mobilis.
Meru determines how the ancients were able to navigate around Esurio, a skill that leads the crew of the Mobilis to discover Caesar.
Meru rescues Zoella from Viresia, but is caught by Kiri and tortured, but they ultimate form a bond and become lovers. He abandons his friends to save her when she is attacked by Zoella, reconciling with them later on.
After Kiri’s death in the battle of Viresia, Meru voyages around Esurio for decades discovering its secrets. Ultimately he is able to board the orbiting generation ship the Du Maurier and discover that all Esurians come from Earth.
Meru dies aboard the ship in 2358 at the age of 73.
