Win a signed copy of Emanation!

So everyone! Here we are again with the last question.

I have one last paperback copy of Emanation reserved, the first book in the saga. I will sign it and will post them out to the lucky winner.

The rules are simple. The first correct answer in the comments section below will win. (Comments are time stamped, so don’t worry if your post is moderated by the website tech – I’ll check the timings!)

After that I’ll contact the winners for address details and arrange for them to be sent after Fantasticon

Good luck!

Question Three : The “Drew” Question

I got in trouble at school at age 13, such a rebel I was! What did I get in trouble for? (The answer is buried in my blog somewhere…)

Answer :

I got told off by my English Literature Master (they were called ‘Masters’ back then) for continually writing essays which featured spaceships and space travel. He told me “No more whoosh went the rocket stories, Wagar!”…

… So I started my next essay with “Whoosh went the rocket… as Johnny switched off the TV to do his homework.”

That got me a detention. Fortunately I never stopped writing ‘Whoosh went the rocket” stories! 😉

To be fair he was an excellent teacher and taught me a lot about literature, characterisation and dialogue even at that age, plus he slipped me copies of Jules Verne and Edgar Rice Burroughs’ books. “I can’t stand them, but you’ll probably enjoy them!” 🙂

  1. You hacked a school computer.

    • We didn’t have any computers when I was at school!

  2. You played Elite on school computer during lessons?

    • No computers at school in my day! 😉

  3. “Writing too many whoosh went the rocket stories.”

    • Congratulations David! The first correct answer. 🙂 Yes, My English Literature teacher told me off at the age of 13 for writing too many “Whoosh went the rocket” stories. I got a detention too… 😉

      • \o/ YAY! Thanks 🙂 Can’t wait 🙂

  4. Too much time playing on the computer

  5. You wortels one too many “woosh there goes the rocket ” story

    • Wrote not wortels.

      • Jurriann – just a moment too late! I’m going to have to have a word with Dan and see if we can get you a copy for most unlucky blog commentator!

  6. You tried to emulate Spock.

    • I did, but I never got in trouble for it!

  7. Hey Drew, make sure you sign one copy for me this weekend… I will order with Dan.
And I was so close… frantically searching your blog in the train with bad reception. I had actually dismissed the correct answer earlier as it didn’t seem to be a severe enough “crime”. 🙂
Somehow for me it seemed no-one else was answering so that’s why my late answer came in. Kudo’s to David Knill!

      • Explanation of why I got a detention now above – I did push it too far. 😉

        • Thanks! Much appreciated.
