Audiobook Update

Posted by on Jan 24, 2014 in Progress Report

Toby Longworth is going to be reading Elite:Reclamation

Elite:Reclamation is through the approval process of Frontier, but the story (ahem) doesn’t end there.

ER is now in the hands of Fantastic Books Publishing’s professional proof readers and will reside there for around 5 days or so whilst its given a very through going over to make sure none of those pesky typos or misused words have managed to hide in the text – they’re as slippery as an orange Sidewinder crewed by a 4 man team of radio presenters after going dark…

After that audiobook production starts. Chris Jarvis is producing them and I’ve already mentioned that I’m not reading the book… so who is?

It’s Toby Longworth.

You may have heard of him. He’s no stranger to the world of sci-fi. He’s provided the voices of Lott Dod and Gragra for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He’s Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz and Wowbagger in the recent audiobook of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (which curiously enough I got for Christmas! A sign?) alongwith being the Electric Monk in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. He provided all 34 voices for Judge Dredd: Solo. He’s narrated three documentaries and been a giant robotic bird in Dr. Who as well.

In fact, here’s an interview where he talks about a character in the animated Dr. Who adventure ‘The Infinite Quest’.

Other stuff? The IT Crowd and even a computer game called Amnesia.

In short, he’s got awesome credentials and I’m very lucky to have him reading ER. Combined with the soundscape direct from Frontier and the amazing work by Chris Jarvis, fresh from Escape Velocity, this audiobook is going to be top notch quality.

It will be just the single actor for now. I may look at a dramatisation (Escape Velocity style) later on if there is enough interest.

And that’s all planned to happen in February! As Dan would say… ‘Onwards!’

  1. All you need is the map. What happens to the recording if those details aren’t available yet?

    • The recording doesn’t happen. Somebody is on the critical path. 😉

  2. “…whilst its given a very through going over to make sure none of those pesky typos or misused words have managed to hide in the text…”

    Pesky indeed.

    😉

    • Which is why we need proofreaders, see what I did there? 😉 (Blush)

    • You beat me to it but did you also notice the missing space further down ?
      (alongwith)
